Victorious in Love (Song of Songs 2:4)

He brought me to the banqueting house (house of wine),
And his banner over me was love.

Through the work of Christ we have been brought into the fellowship of love in the Godhead. God’s love is a celebratory kind of love. We have been invited to fellowship in this love in this life. This joyful love is our stability in this life.

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. -Psalm 51:12

We will one day see the fullness of this love at the wedding super; when we, as the bride, will sit at the table with Jesus, our husband.

And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” -Revelation 19:9

“And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ ……..19 And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. 20 I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord. -Hosea 2:16a, 19-20

In the ancient world armies would bring banners into the battle. These banners symbolized what they were fighting for. And when they returned home with the banner held up, it showed that they won the battle.

Jesus is our victor; He is the victorious bridegroom king! He is the one we live, fight, and die for. We are in this for love, for He is the one we love. We love because He first loved us. This is our banner; the love of God declared through the person of Jesus Christ. When we look at Him we see our promised victory. We will surely overcome. Though the battle rages on, the war has been won!
